Convalescent Care

Convalescent care at Sunnyside Home assists people who have been ill or who have undergone surgery to recover their strength and independence so they can return home.

About Convalescent Care

  • Maximum length of stay is 90 days.
  • Prior to discharge from convalescent care, clients and their families participate in a care conference. During this meeting, any services or equipment that will be needed at home will be arranged.
  • The cost of convalescent care is covered by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. However, there are fees for optional services such as phone, television and hairdressing.
  • Clients are responsible for all transportation costs to outside appointments.

Convalescent Care Provides

  • 24-hour nursing care and on-call physician.
  • Professional staff, including a dietitian, social worker and chaplain.
  • Assistance from caring, dedicated volunteers.
  • Physiotherapy services daily Monday through Friday for 10 - 15 minutes per day.
  • Weekly occupation therapy services.
  • Nutritious meals and snacks served in a social atmosphere.
  • Complimentary laundry services.
  • Accommodation in a private or two-bed standard room.
  • On-site banking service and ATM available.
  • Interdenominational and Roman Catholic weekly church services.
  • Beauty and barber shop.
  • Gift and tuck shop.
  • Free parking for visitors.

To arrange a convalescent care admission, please contact the Community Care Access Centre at 519-748-2222 and ask for the Intake Department.
