2013 Reports

People Returning to Ontario Works

In the fall of 2013 a research project took place to try to understand why some people leave Ontario Works and then return an short time later (within six months). The goal of the research was to gain a deeper understanding of why people return to Ontario Works in order to gain feedback that would help the Employment and Income Support division better support people on Ontario Works. This research built upon an early study that explored if there were factors (e.g., housing, family type, age, etc.) that increased a person's likelihood of returning to Ontario Works.

Transportation Surveys

In the summer of 2013 Employment and Income Support performed two surveys with regard to transportation. The first survey explored customer's use of the Transit for Reduced Incomes Program (TRIP), available through the Working Centre and Lutherwood. The second survey explored when and how people on social assistance (Ontario Works and the Ontario Disability Support Program) use Grand River Transit.

Discretionary Benefits Check-In Report

In the summer of 2013 Employment and Income Support sent out a survey on discretionary benefits to Ontario Works participants, staff of community agencies, and Employment and Income Support staff. The survey sought to understand how the changes to the discretionary benefits program in early 2013 had impacted the community.

The Employment and Income Support Community Advisory Committee (EISCAC) writes a report each year detailing the work of the committee.

2013 Labour Market Analysis

The Labour Market Analysis is a report that is authored each year by the Workforce Planning Board of Waterloo-Wellington-Dufferin for the Region of Waterloo. The report highlights employment rates and trends in the local labour market.

2012 Reports

Discretionary Benefits Report

As a result of the 2012 Provincial budget changes were made to the funding of the discretionary benefits program. Employment and Income Support sent out a survey in the summer of 2012 to Ontario Works participants, staff of community agencies, and Employment and Income Support staff. The purpose of the survey was to understand what discretionary benefits were most important to people receiving support from Ontario Works and the Ontario Disability Support Program.

Online Application Evaluation

In 2012 Employment and Income Support performed an evaluation of the methods that Employment and Income Support uses to process online applications to Ontario Works.
